But I Digress.....TMB TRip..... Day Zero... Arrival to Chamonix, France!

I realize I must post the TMB trip from this past August. My wife and I flew to Switzerland from LAX on Aug 15, 2023. The following day we were joined by her brother John, and step-sister Sally in Chaminox, France. On Aug 17 through Aug 30, we hiked the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB). The hike is approximately 105 trail miles, in France, Italy, and Switzerland. The trail is unique because along the way you can either tent camp or stay in refugees, or hostels/hotels. We elected to stay either in a hotel or a refugee.

We completed the hike on August 30, one day later than planned due to heavy rain on the 29th for part of the day. On the 29th we took a bus into town rented a hotel room and toured the city. We planned on doing that on the 30th after finishing the hike the day earlier.

It's Official. We have our start date for the PCT!

Then after weeks of waiting you get word. Your PCT trip is getting real!

I applied for the PCT permit on

I received notice of my time on Nov 14, 2023

I was able to select a date on Nov 15, 2023 at 10:58 AM

I was notified that the my PCT permit was approved on

Once you get in, you get a detailed explanation or description of what you just signed up for...

So when you sign up for the PCT, it looks something like this....

Mammoth....Our Final work out befor the TMB Aug 4-6... And Visit to Tuolmee Meadows in Yosemite

Our final push in our preparation for the TMB. We headed to Mammoth CA to train in altitude. We did two hikes over a three-day period in Mammoth.

Claremont Wilderness Trail- Full Gear

Beth and I began the hike at 6:45 AM at a temperature of 74 degrees. We did the 5 miles in just under 2 hours and at the end of the hike the temp was 85 degrees. We hiked in full gear as we prepared to hike the TMB in less than a month.

Ice House Saddle July 25 6:15 AM Start

Today Terry and I hiked to the saddle. We started the day out early to beat the heat. We met at the In-n-Out and while there met Eric an In-n-Out contractor doing some work. We had a good early morning conversation. When Terry arrived Eric said hold on and gave me two burger cards for lunch! That was awfully nice of him, my first trail magic! We made the trail beginning our hike at 6:15 AM. The temp was 71 degrees at the start of the hike and 81 at the end of the hike. Today in town the temp reached 100 degrees.

Ice House Canyon to the Saddle July 23 6:15 AM Start

Beth and I hiked to the Saddle today beginning the hike at 6:15 AM. At the beginning of the hike, the temperature was 74 degrees, when we finished it was 84. There were high clouds in the sky today.
